The Digital Professional
14 The Digital Professional After meeting Bikash, Abhijit realised the importance of staying in tune with the changing time and decided to update himself to make technology work for him. We all have those projects on our list: the ones that can make a big difference in our lives and our practices – if we could only get them done. But we don’t know when to start. We don’t have time. And we have so many pending priorities. So the big, important project stays on the list and gathers dust. But it doesn’t have to be done that way. Break It Down! It is always said and accepted that a journey begins with a single step. • When will we take that step? • Are we taking that step in the right direction? • What should be our first step? The problem is not that we don’t know that we need to break a project down, but that we don’t know how to go about doing that. If we’re looking at a project or goal that is so overwhelming that we can’t even begin to think about how to start, we don’t try. Instead, we must think, “What can I do today that will get me one step closer to completing that project?” By taking those little steps we can keep the project from gathering dust and getting pushed aside. It also keeps the project on one’s mind and they could have little bursts of insight about what to do next! We can accomplish big things just one small bite at a time. Of course, a more efficient way of getting the job done is to map it all out ahead of time. This works well for a project that’s been done before – either by you or by someone who is kind enough to share their process with you (the internet can become your friend here).
